"Never once," he tells our own Victoria Recano, but is quick to add, "I have that friend."
Eric, who is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, also says that he's unlike his big-screen alter ego in that he's ready to have a family himself.
"I never had that fear of 'I have to burn that black book'; [the] stereotypical 'man down, another one's getting married'-type thing," he explains. "I was always just like, 'This is what we do, this is the next chapter.' And kids, the same way; I want to have a big family and I'm ready for it, you know? And in the same breath, not ready, because I don't think anybody is. But I'm willing to learn."

'Marley & Me' opens in theaters Christmas Day.
