Bristol Palin, the daughter of former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has given birth to her baby.

People magazine reports that 18-year-old Bristol gave birth to a 7-pound, 4-ounce baby boy on Sunday in Palmer, Alaska.

Citing the sister of Bristol Palin's grandmother, the mag says Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston have named the baby Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston.

"We think it's wonderful," Colleen Jones tells People. Jones is the sister of Bristol's grandmother Sally Heath. "The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."

Bristol's pregnancy grabbed headlines when the then-17-year-old's mother ran for vice president alongside John McCain in this year's presidential election.

  • Why are we making headlines of a private family situation which has no bearing whatsoever on any major political issue or event of inmportance in these days of fiscal restraints and numerouus job losses. Surely Governor Palin, herself, would not want this to be the headliner for the day!

  • Hmmm, I don't think that was wrong. It didn't make any difference to the election, that's what I think.

  • Now that she's not going to be the Vice President...it'll be interesting to see if this guy follows through with marrying her daughter. I think three factors contributed to the GOP's defeat: (a) People want a change from Bush (b) McCain was perceived as too old (c) Sarah, although cute and funny, just doesn't come off as Commander in Cheif material.
