John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston are speaking to fans and supporters for the first time since their 16-year-old son Jett died in the Bahamas.

"We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences," said a statement posted on John's official Web site.

"Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives," the Web posting said.

"We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future," the statement concluded.

  • I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your son, Jett. I have never had the privilege to meet you, but feel a connection since I have seen you both in television and in movies. I have had a heavy heart when I heard the news about Jett's death and you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

You have always been a special person and I have admired you for many years. I pray that God eases your pain and that your memories of Jett will ease your heartache.   • Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Travolta family. I cannot begin to imagine the depth of your pain. I truly believe that God takes each of us at a certain time in our life for a specific reason - sometimes it may take years to discover that reason. My brother was killed when he was 10. Twenty-three years later, I was in a near-death situation and believe my brother was my angel - had it not been for him - I know I would not be here today. Jett will be someone's guardian angel. It will not ease the pain the Travolta family will experience but, in time, they will experience Jett's powers beyond this world. God Bless all of you

  • I just finished reading "Nothing's Impossible" by Christopher Reeve, , Dear John and Kelly, I believe that you have such a love to sustain you. as much as Dana and Chris, Jett fulfilled his mission , now, we look to you as an example as his parents, your courage. I practice Buddhism {same as Patrick Duffy and Tina Turner) This boy was amazing. and we look to you to be strong, to never give up!

  • John Kelly Ella, My heart goes out to all of you. I lost my big brother at age 17 in a carwreck in 1970. I was only 6 but I miss him so very much. Jett was so deeply loved by all of you. I know hes looking down and smiling. Be Strong

  • I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I can tell you with time it must get better, b ecause my mother lost 3 little boys and she did a great job raising me, my two sisters and my brother. It's so hard right now to listen or hear what anyone is saying. But if you look to God for strenght I promise he will help. My parent's turned to God and it has gotten them through.

  • To the Travolta Family Members: Jett is not truly gone but still remains due to your love and memories. God has such a plan for him that we don't understand here on earth. Please know hearts were breaking when the news broke. As a mother myself, I cannot comprehend your pain, but it will ease in time.

The media should show some compassion by not showing the paramedic letting everyone know about the last moments the family had with Jett. I believe that crossed the line. I realize they are famous but everyone deserves the right to privacy.

  • I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Travolta family. I am the mother of a 20 year old son who is epileptic and the news of Jett's death really weighs heavy on my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your entire family.

  • John, Kelly and family I am so sorry to hear of your tragic loss of your son Jett. As a parent of a child who has died myself, I know exactly what you're going through. Though there's nothing anyone can say or do to bring Jett back to you or make the pain go away, know that it does get easier with time. I have also recently found out that my youngest who is 8 has to wear polarized lenses in flurescent lighting and day light to protect her from seizures. This is a very scarrey thing. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I love you and your wife Kelly and it hurts knowing the pain and heart ache you and your family are having to deal with. Don't let anyone tell you how to handle your own grief. I love you and don't lose hope for tomorrow. Remember late at night when you look up into the sky and you see that brightest star, that's JETT shinning his light on you so look up and tell him how much you LOVE HIM.

  • Dear John, Kelly and Ella, I am so very SORRY about your son and brother Jett. I know that this is the hardest thing in your life to go through. I went through it 16 months ago and the pain is still there and probley always will be.My Fianc,ee and me lived as husband and wife and were to be married when he was unexpectedly killed in a car accident. God is holding and carrying you and his angles are surrounding you and sitting on your shoulder. I know Jett is with your mother and family in Heaven. They will be by him and he will want you not to be broken for he will be sad that the tears are shedding and he cant help comfort you. I know he,ll miss you too, but Gods time is different than our time. What if every minute of his time is a year in ours. That would mean that with God he was here for 16 long min. It would also mean that John and Kelly haven,t even been on earth for an hour in his time. It also means for Jett it won,t belong for him before he sees you agian. I am lighting a candle and it will burn all day for the remmberance of Jett and to pay homage to him. I wish I could do something else for your wounded spirit. May God shine on you and give you much needed Peace !!   • I feel very sad for Mr and Mrs Travolta's loss of their son I would just like to pass on my love and prayers for them and hope that even in this very very difficult time that their son is no longer here that he has been chosen to be the one to go the heavens, also just think now he has his wings and flying over you both everyday. The first bright star you see above will be him shinnig brightly as he did down here on earth for you a way of saying mom dad i am okay.
