See More... Heath Ledger won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his work in 'The Dark Knight.'

The film's director, Christopher Nolan, took the stage and accepted the statuette from presenter Demi Moore. A brief scene from the film, in which Ledger portrayed the Joker, played and then Nolan gave a touching tribute to the young actor.

Nolan spoke of the "incredible place in the history of cinema [Ledger had] built for himself," and said, "for any of us lucky enough to work with him … he will be eternally missed but he will never be forgotten."

Ledger passed away almost a year ago on January 22, 2007 of an accidental overdose at age 28.

  • Who honors a guy who left a child without a father due to use of drugs? Let's all give tribute to a drug addict.

    • Right, because this is the very first time tribute has been payed to an addict??
Last I checked, half of the entire music industry is based off heroin.
I doubt Ledger was an addict at all, mostly because I don't know him and everyone has a different story about how he *really* died, all of them seemed to have some 'reputable' source behind them as well.
And you can say whatever you want, He did an amazing job playing the Joker, if you honestly didn't think so then I doubt you watched the movie.

  • Hey Laralover.....Heath did leave a child behind...which is a terrible loss to his daughter Matilda, but give it a break...Heath's performance as the Joker was fantastic. He missed his calling in Broke Back Mountain and he was still alive then....He has won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Dark Knight and hopefully he will win an Academy Award....something for his daughter to be proud of.....He is winning these awards not because of his passing but because he was a most talented actor......Heath's substance abuse cost him his life...very tragic....some overcome these types of addictions and some don't....he needed help...unfortunately not in time....

  • Just one note: He died in 2008, not 2007.

  • His portrayal of the joker was terrible. Then again they ACTUALLY made a sequel to the horrible Batman Begins so I would expect nothing less from America.

    • Really? What makes his portrayal of the joker terrible? It's surely not his acting. Even so, why do you stereotype America as a whole? By doing such, in order not to be a hypocryte, you must then group yourself with whatever country you're from along with everything you don't agree with; is this something you're willing to do? Are you a part of your country's failings?

  • actually (for all the ignorant people bashing a dead person) it was a "prescription drug overdose". You know when you are sick and the doctor tells you to take some pills for this, and some other medicine for something else but when you are really sick the dosage is larger and if you accidentally take the wrong pills at the wrong time you can die? that's what happened, it was all over the press, all over the news, magazines...so let the young man die in peace, will ya??

    • Some people just hear the word "drug" and automatically think he was hooked on meth or something...

It was (if I remember correctly) his doctors fault. But not to the extent that a court would hold him responsible.

    • thanks for being informed! can you believe the amount of people eager to tear a person's reputation apart even after his death? from what I recall he got sick while he was in the set of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and was developing a pneumonia, and it was the treatment that got him killed
