What Kind of Dog Should the Obamas Get?

President-elect Barack Obama has revealed that his family is very close to a big decision. What type of dog will they get to join them in The White House?

Obama tells George Stephanopoulos in an interview with "ABC's This Week" that the girls have shortened the list of choices to two breeds.

"They seem to have narrowed it down to a Labradoodle or a Portugese water hound," Obama says. "So we're now going to start looking at shelters to see when one of those dogs might come up.

Obama also spoke about the girls adjustment to their new schools, which he was pleased to report has been smooth sailing.

"They seemed to thrive," he says. "I'm trying to figure out why it is that they don't seem to be fazed by anything. They just don’t seem to be intimidated."

Barack Obama will be sworn in as president on Jan. 20.

  • Obama's comments just shows his immaturity. His campaign is getting more like a grade school election than a United States of America election. Grow up! His body language says so much about him.

    • no matter what you may think of him -- he wasn't too immature to win the Presidency of the United States of America -- you are the one who needs to grow up.

  • Obama isn't immature. What was immature was the petty jabs McCain was shooting at the last conference. As long as he has been in the senate I KNOW they trained him "not to let them see you sweat" Mr. McCain couldn't even sit still. He's temper makes me nervous. We so don't need anyone emotional rollercoaster president.

Ensure there's a list and put on it - how much time does this type of dog require, are they gentle, do they need to be groomed a lot etc. "Shotgun Shopping" book has all the tips and techniques for them to make the best choice for their family

Somethings he might not be able to accomplish. Even though he'll try extremly hard. Four years goes by fast! As for the body language comment. It must not be that bad...or all women of all races would'nt swoon over him so much. Especially the white women.

  • Labrawhat!? Let's not confuse the American public. A Labradoodle is not a breed. it is a mixed marriage of a Labrador retriever and a poodle. Cute, no-shedding - maybe, but not a breed.
. The breed to run against the Portuguese water dog is...The Irish soft-coated wheaten terrier. The best!!!!!!!!!!

  • FYI, Labradoodle is NOT a breed as is the Portugese Water Hound. A Labradoodle is a MIX breed from Poodle & Labrador Retriever. It is one of these "designer dog" that someone came up with. So PLEASE do not refer to it as a breed.

  • i love both dogs but with this economy, i think these dogs are way too much money to spend... in NC these dogs cost $3,000. $6,000. each!! don't you think he could go to the pound and get a mutt they have alot of love to share!!!

  • I used to help run a kennel while learning how to groom. My favorite dog there was a portuguese water dog named Dulce. They are friendly, loyal, and the softest dog I ever felt. Everyone has labradoodles. Be different. They are easier to dry also as their hair is water resistant.

  • A labradoodle is not a breed of dog. It is a mix of two breeds with the hopes that both the parent breeds' best qualities are reproduced in the offspring. I hope Barack Obama makes the right choice by obtaining a Portuguese Water Dog and not supporting puppy mills that produce designer dogs for profit.

  • I would highly recommend a miniature schnauzer. They don't shed, are excellent for folks with allergy problems, and extremely intelligent. We just adopted our second in the past nine years and love them. Our most recent is approximately 7 years old. We adopted him from Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of North Texas.

But if a Min-Schnauz is not good enough, definitely go with the nextbest choice,, Labradoodle.

Or is it a way to bring even more media attention to his perfectly aborable family. (I'd like him better if he was getting a cat. It was the only thing I liked about the Clintons)

The cronies seem to be the same as what we have had in the senate before-where is the change? A master of language, or how he carries his body for lanquage doesn't give me any reason to believe all these stimulas packages are going to work. The route he chooses depends upon the decision he makes but the decision making process is not within the competence of an individual. There are so many guiding principles and role of inheritance is so crucial that the person who swept away with a desire to search the gospel of life ,may consider himself that he has lost his relevance in the process. An urge may lead to big surge .The innovation and the ideals play a vital role for the advancement. Some people are very optimistic and sometime they appear to become over-enthusiastic. The individuals use worship the rising sun and as such since an interaction with another individual having an innocent behavior, may always be regarded as one of the associates. Life is threefold present ;the present having an experience, past with a memory and past with a memory and a future with an expectation .

  • The harmonious construction is required to be given effect for analysing the truth amongst the 3 dimensional reflections. Thus the individuals who is associated with an optimistic personality always try to germinate confidence and simultaneously an introspection with retrospective effect. Throwing a stone up on the Moon may not be considered as an intelligent step but without throwing the stone in the upward direction, the heights attended by the trees in the Garden may not be crossed. It is only matter of appreciation and understanding by the individuals as to whether he may understand that the fellow is throwing the stone to cross the barrier or to some impossible distances. However even after being conversant that the person may suffer the innoclasm towards his objectives in life, but the said Individual’s approach becomes a guiding factor to other associate. The father of the individual enthusiastic personality may seldom be not able to cope up the requirement of adjustment in life with his son but certainly there is an implied appreciation which is not demonstrated but can be felt with his behavior. Thus the child who understand that it is on account of close affinity that the matter of appreciation become an unnecessary formality and this creates a misunderstanding.

  • People worships to God as he is unknown as usually inaccessible. Likewise the enthusiasm of an individual is indirectly related with the destiny and incase if the Luck permits, there is every possibility of achieving the success. Who will not like to become conversant with an important personality and likewise people outside may start appreciation with a critical assessment regarding your performance. Thus neither the disappointment is required nor there is any need to provide undue prominence to such negative approach. Though thy path be dark but there is a guiding factor which is given to the people by the nature and not by the individuals.
