The actor and daredevil was detained for bringing an inert grenade to the airport in his carry-on luggage. The grenade did not contain an explosive.
Police say Knoxville, whose real name is Philip John Clapp, was later released and allowed to take an American Airlines Miami-bound flight.
A complaint was filed against the 37-year-old for bringing the prohibited item to the airport, a misdemeanor offense.
Knoxville, who is best known for playing pranks on the big screen and small screen in "Jackass," told authorities the grenade was a prop that he forgot to remove from his bag.
