"You kids are the future of this great nation," Michelle Obama told the crowd of 14,000 at Monday night's Kids Inaugural concert in Washington D.C.. "And at this extraordinary moment in our nation's history, we wanted you to be able to join in on this celebration and share this incredible journey with us."
Michelle joined her daughters, Malia and Sasha, as they danced like maniacs to music by Disney superstars Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers. And you can believe that the importance of this night was not lost on the performers.
"It was awesome," Joe Jonas said of seeing the girls in the front row. "I had to get them up on stage and celebrate together."
But our newest first lady gave the crowd the biggest boost with her inspirational speech directed at America's youth.
"You don't need to wear a uniform to serve this country ... We all have something incredible to contribute to the life of this nation. And kids, this means you, too," she told them. "We need every American to serve their community including young people. Whether that is volunteering at a homeless shelter or visiting an elderly person, whether it is picking up trash, writing letters to our troops, we can all do something special.
"We can all work to make this great nation one filled with hope and prosperity."
Amen!
