Kate Garraway Has a Pregnant Pal in Daughter Darcey

Long before the birth of a second child, as a pregnant belly begins to swell, parents often find themselves taking time out to explain to their first-born what exactly is growing inside mommy’s tummy. While the concept of a new baby may be over some toddlers’ heads — as many simply enjoy rubbing the burgeoning belly — others children are thrilled with the news and eagerly take on the responsibility of keeping their pregnant mamas company!

Due with her second child this summer, GMTV presenter Kate Garraway reveals that her 2 ½-year-old daughter Darcey Mary’s initial reaction upon receiving the news that she was going to soon be a big sister was one that the mama-to-be and her husband Derek Draper had expected. “She seemed really pleased. She ran around the room saying, ‘Yippee! Mommy has a baby in her tummy!’” However, shortly after the celebration, Darcey surprised her parents with some news of her own. Recalls Kate,

“But 10 minutes later she announced that she had a baby in her tummy too, so I’m not sure she really grasped the concept.”

While Darcey may be a bit disappointed to learn that there is no baby in her belly, Kate has “high hopes” that her daughter will be a great big sister. “When we recently visited a friend’s baby, [Darcey] was desperate to feed her and cuddle her,” shares the proud mama.
