Kirsten Johnston Reveals Absolutely Fabulous Remake Deatils

A: Hollywood’s not taking any chances during a recession with ORIGINAL ideas, so expect to see a whole truck load of remakes, sequels, and prequels for the next two years. Starting with the much anticipated (?) American revamp of Absolutely Fabulous.

Kirsten Johnston (3rd Rock From The Sun) is returning to sitcoms as Patsy the booze loving best friend of fashion publicist Edina, played by Kathryn Hahn (Revolutionary Road).

I love Kirsten Johnston but this idea has been kicked around for years and never got legs because who the hell wants to make new Ab Fab memories when our old hazy ones are perfectly fine?

“I think they captured the exact amount of sweetie-darling,” she says. “I mean, it’s a totally different element, it’s a totally different show. We don’t smoke, we are hungover all the time, we chew Nicorette, we’re trying to be more PC, but I think it really works. It’s one of those scripts that’s like my favorite kind because on paper you’re like, Oh, this is funny, but when you read it out loud with two actresses, it’s, like, the funniest s— ever.”-EW

That doesn’t sound very funny….it’s sounds like an AA meeting.

“I shouldn’t say this to you but, like, literally the head of the network” — that’d be Fox’s Kevin Reilly — “hugged us all, left the room, and came back in two minutes and was like, ‘Let’s make the pilot.’

These are mighty expensive and glamorous shows to fill, thank God Jennifer Saunders (EP, star, and creator) is executive producing the remake.

For: David, our Patsy.

  • This will be a nightmare. The US version of The Office was atrocious enough, but this will be so embarrassing, there are really no words. These shows were driven by the performers, nothing else. They did not just act in them, they wrote, produced...

  • This is guaranteed garbage. Why remake anything as perfectly complete and culturally rich as abfab? Oh yes, cause us Americans and hopelessly greedy and self-deluded.

  • Why would they want to remake something that is already perfect? More PC? That defeats the whole purpose! No smoking? Patsy burned down Eddy's kitchen with a cigarette! Why do American television producers feel that they have to steal shows from...

  • Oh dear Lord, NO.

They've been tossing around the possibility of doing a remake of AbFab for YEARS now. Roseanne was interested for a while. Jean Smart did that quasi-remake called "High Society" that went nowhere fast. About the best...
