Singer Shakira returned to her home country of Colombia yesterday, to open a $6 million school funded by her charity foundation. The pop star was accompanied by President Alvaro Uribe as she unveiled the school in her hometown of Barranquilla. The 13,000-square meter school will cater for 1,800 students and is the fifth funded by the singer-songwriter’s foundation Pies Descalzos, which means "barefoot" in Spanish. Located in La Playa, one of the region’s poorest areas, will focus on bilingual and art education for under-privileged students.
