The 2009 Grammy Award Winners List & Recap

I will say that Coldplay walked away with a couple of wins and Stevie Wonder performed along with Justin Timberlake. Lil’ Wayne was also a winner tonight, as well as John Mayer.

U2 opened the show with their new song, “Get On Your Boots”, and the sound came out rather distorted for their performance.

Afterwards, Whitney Houston took the stage to announce the winner of the Best R&B Album Grammy, which went to Jennifer Hudson. She was thankful to God, her family in Heaven as well as those with her tonight. She delivered an emotional acceptance speech and you know her mother would’ve been so proud. You go girl!

Coldplay performed and then Jay-Z accompanied Chris Martin for an awkward sort of rap/rock crossover. Carrie Underwood performed next and the jury is still out on what girlfriend was wearing for the show. What do you think? I liked most of her dress, except for the S&M look with the black belt crossing over her chest.

Cheryl Crowe and LeAnn Rimes announced Sugarland as the winner for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group Award for their song, “Stay”.

The Song Of The Year Grammy went to Coldplay for their song, “Viva La Vida.” Kid Rock then performed “Amen”, and did a decent job. Afterwards, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift performed “Fifteen” which was written by Taylor. Then they announced the winner of Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals Grammy. That award went to Robert Plant and Allison Krauss for their song, “Rich Woman”.

Jennifer Hudson gave an emotional performance, holding back tears in a black dress (loved it). Afterwards, Blink 182 announced the Grammy winner for Best Rock Album. Coldplay won again, it was definitely their night to shine.

Katy Perry sang “I Kissed A Girl” and she sounded utterly horrible. Afterwards, Kanye West and Estelle performed, “American Boy”. Methinks Kanye’s trying to bring back the afro-mullet. How’s that workin’ out for ya? After performing, the two of them announced the Grammy winner for Best New Artist, which went to Adele.

Kenny Chesney performed and then Sean Combs, Herbie Han, and Natalie Cole announced the winner of the Grammy for Record Of The Year. That honor went to Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. Note to Allison, quit screwing up our chances for a Led Zeppelin reunion already.

Queen Latifah took the stage to introduce M.I.A. (whose due date for her baby was Sunday) along with T.I., Jay-Z, and Lil’ Wayne, who performed “Swagger Like Us”. Good song.

Kate Beckinsale took the stage to introduce Paul McCartney, who sang, “I Saw Her Standing There”. Gotta say, Macca’s still got it.

Jack Black and Charlie Haden were up next to announce the winner of the Best Male Pop Vocals Grammy, which went to John Mayer for his song, “Say”. No shout out to his girlfriend in the acceptance speech? I’m not surprised.

Sugarland and Adele performed next and then Radiohead took the stage for a performance. Lil’ Wayne performed alongside Robin Thicke next, and Robin was smooth, and Lil’ Wayne’s performance wasn’t really memorable.

Will.I.Am and T-Pain announced Lil’ Wayne as the winner of the Best Rap Album Grammy. Allison Krauss and Robert Plant sang two songs from their album and then Green Day (who knew?) took the stage to announce the winner of the Album Of The Year Grammy. That Grammy went to Robert Plant and Allison Krauss for their album, “Raising Sand”.

Stevie Wonder closed out the show with his performance of “All About The Love Again”.
