'Idol' Replaces Contestant Who Had Record Deal

"American Idol" producers have replaced show contestant Joanna Pacitti as one of its Top 36 after declaring her ineligible to compete on the show.

"It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition. 'American Idol' contestant Felicia Barton has replaced Ms. Pacitti as part of the Top 36," a FOX press release said, without stating a reason for the disqualification.

It was well known that Pacitti had signed a deal with A & M Records prior to auditioning for the hit music reality show.

The change gives a new chance to Barton, 26, who is from Virginia Beach, VA.

  • why would you let her get that far after she already had a record deal. I'm surprised her record company didn't just call up American Idol and tell them to kick her of the show or tell her they would drop her if she continued.

  • Probably a back door arrangement with A & M to give her more publicity. It will affect her record sales I am sure of it.

  • It's about time! I was wondering how long they were going to keep her around. They should have known she was ineligible from the beginning. So, why didn't they bring back the blonde that Simon wanted to keep?? I'm sorry - I don't remember her name.
