THE IDIOT BOX - Sharpton to Get the Sharpton Treatment from Beck
FACE OFF Sharpton, Beck (inset)Is Al Sharpton about to get a taste of his own coercive medicine? The irreverent reverend is slated to be a guest on Glenn Beck's CNN Headline News program tonight to discuss the controversy surrounding a recent remark he made about Mormon presidential candidate Mitt Romney. On the air last night, Beck, a Mormon, said he would "ask [Sharpton] about those comments about Mitt Romney and the entire Mormon faith."

On Monday, during a debate about religion with staunch atheist Christopher Hitchens, Sharpton said of Romney, "As for the one Mormon running for office, those that really believe in God will defeat him anyway, so don't worry about that." Romney responded by labeling Sharpton's remark "bigoted," though Sharpton has defended his comment, saying he didn't mean to imply that Mormons don't believe in God.

Will Sharpton—who has so often forced public figures accused of racism to come on his radio show and grovel for his listeners' forgiveness—tender an apology to Mormons on Beck's program? A spokesman for Sharpton says only that he will "clarify his position."
