Yesterday the first round of 12 contestants did their first live performances. No one really stood out as they all played it rather safe. The stand out were Danny Gokey and Alexis Grace. Being that their competition bored me into a small coma only Paula’s gin soaked carcass could awaken me from.
Danny has the charisma and is the weeping hero that has become a pillar of strength factor. Not to mention talent. Here is our new David Cook. Despite the fact he was singing a Mariah Carey tune, he did well. He blew the others away with his rendition of “Hero.” To which Paula replied…
“I have two words: sold out arenas.”
Good job Paula. I am sure the Count from Sesame Street is thumping his head in disgust muttering something about failing.
Alexis Grace had busted out some Aretha Franklin and sang “I Never Loved a Man.” Which is possibly true because she looks like she plays for the home team. I would love to see her win. The first lesbian America Idol…now you are talking!
With the other changes this year, only 3 of the 12 will move on. The other 9 hopefuls will either get the boot or hold on for the wild card spots. Being that last night’s song theme was hits from the Billboard Hot 100, you’d have thought at least one person would have be brave and try out some Eminem.
