According to the police report affidavit the fight was caused by a text message sent by a woman who had a past sexual relationship with Chris Brown.

Chris, a singing and dancing machine with a PG - rating, is rumored to have been carrying on a sexual affair with his much older manager, and is reportedly in love with the woman, who was formerly a Senior VP at Def Jam. The romance is now supposedly disrupting Chris’ tour, and his mama, as expected, is PISSED, obvs. Her kid’s been getting busy with an older woman since he was 16, and now the affair is allegedly destroying his tour with Bow Wow - all in the name of Harold & Maude-esque love. Oh Chris, how we suddenly find you so much more appealing now. Kiss Kiss, indeed. The singer has released a statement denying the whole thing, dropping the usual token phrases when these kind of rumors arise. He says, “Chris Brown and his manager Tina Davis have a strictly professional relationship,” the statement reads. “Ms. Davis has been instrumental in helping Chris achieve success as a multi-talented singer/dancer/actor. Rumors that the relationship goes beyond a working one are not only patently false, they diminish her efforts and his undeniable talents.”[VH1]

Reports broke out Tuesday that the SMS that sparked the violent fight between Rihanna and Chris Brown was sent from his manager, Tina Davis, with whom Chris Brown allegedly had an affair at the age of sixteen.
The fight reportedly broke out when Rihanna became furious at the "three page text" message sent to Chris from his 39-year-old manager. He then purportedly flew into a rage, biting and strangling Rihanna and threatening to kill her, bruising her face and splitting her lip.
He has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats, but is yet to enter a plea. His next arraignment hearing is scheduled for April 6.
According to police, the message discussed a possible meeting later the same evening between Chris and the sender, they have not confirmed it was sent by Tina. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) affidavit relating to the assault case states the message was "from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with".
Chris and Tina both say they have never had a sexual relationship.
Despite spending time apart after the reported incident, Chris and Rihanna, 21, are believed to have reconciled after holding crisis talks at P. Diddy’s Miami home. The rapper has confirmed he did loan the pair his villa, but refused to be drawn on what was discussed while they were there.
He said: “It was a dark time for them and I was there as more of a support. I'm not immersed in their situation. I'm not going to pass judgment on it. I'm going to be there as a friend.
“It's my house, and I'm allowed to give my house to whoever I want to give my house to. I don't cast a stone – cast judgment on anybody. So, if friends ask me for a favour, then I'm going to be there for a favour as long as I know the energy of the favour is positive.
“I don't think it's right for anybody to hit anybody. We know sometimes relationships get ugly. We don't know exactly what's going on. There are two young individuals involved. We need to pray for them.”
Meanwhile, Nickelodeon is not planning to remove Chris’ nominations in the Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song for ‘Kiss Kiss’ categories at the upcoming Kids’ Choice Awards.

People give false reports all the time, the police just take down...
