Insiders seem to think it’s possible. At the launch of co-star Bethenny Frankel’s diet book, “Naturally Thin,” Wednesday night, the “Wives” and their pals were all buzzing about Bensimon’s arrest.
“Some people on the show suspect that Kelly orchestrated the entire situation to better her chances of being asked back next season,” one insider says of Bensimon, who was arrested last week for misdemeanor assault after boyfriend Nicholas Stefanov called the cops, saying she’d punched him.
“Kelly is ruthless. Some who know her think she planned the attack with Nicholas. He’s speaking of her too positively for this to be domestic abuse. Shouldn’t he be angrier? It’s also convenient that Kelly timed the leak of her arrest to the day a new episode of the show aired.”
The model/editor/reality star/divorcee did just happen to turn herself in on March 6, two days after the incident occurred. She was released on her own recognizance.
Although none of the Real Housewives have yet sealed their deals — a rep for Bravo says “there have been no talks about contracts or another season yet” — Bensimon is seen as being in the weakest position and the least likely to be signed back on.
“No one likes her,” a source tells us flatly. “She hasn’t endeared herself to the ladies on the show — or anyone else.”
Not being tight with her cast mates didn’t stop Bensimon from requesting their silence after her boyfriend brouhaha. “Kelly advised the ladies to say, ‘It’s nothing, just say no comment.’ She acted like it was a nonevent, saying that the story would blow over … she was really blasé about the whole ordeal,” says our source.
Tellingly, Bensimon was the only cast member who didn’t cheer on Frankel this week. Alex McCord, Ramona Singer and Jill Zarin were all present at her celebratory fete at Japonais. LuAnn de Lesseps, who was unable to make the party, had made Frankel’s book-signing earlier in the evening. At the very least, with Bensimon MIA, Frankel was free to share her thoughts on her fist-waving co-star.
“You’d see me hitting the bottle before you’d see me hitting a man!” she sniped.
Snitches one insider, “Kelly truly is the most desperate housewife now.”
Our thoughts? The reality of this show is that all the ladies are a bit catty — and now the claws have come out. Meow!
