Michael Sarver Sent Home on 'American Idol'

Another "Idol" hopeful's dreams were dashed as oil rig worker Michael Sarver was sent home on this week's special Thursday edition of FOX hit "American Idol."

When host Ryan Seacrest announced that the young dad had the lowest number of votes, he took the stage to perform "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," in one last attempt to persuade the judges to keep him around. Unfortunately, despite the judges stalling for more time to make their decision, judge Simon Cowell finally announced, "Michael you’re going home, sorry."

"I'm coming home baby," Sarver told his family from the stage.

Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud joined Sarver in the bottom three, but got the good news that they were spared elimination.

The night was jam-packed with music icons. Stevie Wonder brought the audience to its feet with a medley, while Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone joined for a touching duet, and former "Idol" winner Ruben Studdard also took the stage.

Over 36 million viewers cast their ballots this week, which Seacrest pointed out, is a record. To share your "American Idol" opinions, visit TV.com and vote in their "Idol" poll.
