Zac Effron was the main focus of this event as he plays the lead in this film which is a comedy about basically being given a second chance at life and trying to get it right second time around. The female stars of the film were noticeable by their absence including Michelle Trachtenberg, Katerina Graham, Leslie Mann and Allison Miller hence no mention of them in the headline!
A lot of female stars turned out for this event with a high per centage of the British persuasion and there was a smattering of male stars with the line up as follows: Bonnie Wright, Danielle Lloyd, Roxanne Pallett, Sarah Smith, Sean Smith, Tamara Ecclestone, Tom Felton, Zac Efron, Jemma McKenzie-Brown, Amy Guy and Diana Vickers and more.
Diana Vickers is a name that stuck out at this event she appeared on X Factor and was one of the finalists that caused a stir with the media and it was good to see her mingling with the stars.
The plot:
This is a film about second life chances and 17 seems to be the age where Mike O”Donnell (Zac Effron) has it all, but zoom forward 20 years and Mike (now Matthew Perry of Friends fame) wishes he could go back and start from 17 again and have a second shot as things have not quite turned out as well as expected.
This film has wives, daughters and janitors and friends all caught in this comedy story line. To get the full SP read the Wikipedia version as it is quite complex.
The Verdict:
Purely trailer based , for a comedy it raised a few smiles and a couple of sniggers, from the story line this looks to be a complex film, but from the trailer it does not. Comedy films along with horror normally never achieve above 3 stars in rating terms here as the main objective in these films is laughter or fright, not acting, complex storyline or other technical aspects, this applies to the bulk of these type of films although there are some very rare and outstanding films from these types of genre that have achieved high critical rating.
This film sadly is not in that rare and outstanding category, not by a long shot, in summary, it’s a fun light hearted watch, a bit of fun laced with a few laughs and something people can relate to, 17 year olds in particular Americans can relate to this 100% and this will be a hit with that market. This is getting the cool and OMG and “I Can’t Wait” vote on You Tube. We are unfortuantely are not as excited and are going to go all critic and irritatingly posh on this one. Technically there is nothing much going on here, and that is what we rate , screaming fans, cool or otherwise, we are unable to rate any higher than a Rating of 2 stars out 5. For Zac Effron fans though this is essential viewing. Box office wise strangely enough could do well with the Zac Effron factor in play, but there are a lot of comedy films out there at present or coming in the pipeline which could affect box office ratings which are vastly superior!
