Star lost a whopping 160 lbs. after she underwent gastric bypass surgery. The TV personality hid or at least tried to hide the surgery and led people to believe that she had achieved weight loss success on her own. The deceitfulness ultimately aided in the loss of her job on The View. It is the first time that Jones has admitted that it was her doctor who said “If you don’t make changes, you will die.” She told Oprah:
“I was ashamed…That’s the word that is actually the real word. I was ashamed that I couldn’t control my weight, that I was an addict for all practical purposes, that I had never stuck to a real diet, that I had never stuck to a real exercise program.”
Jones has ongoing weight issues and says she still at times feels like that 300 pound woman, calling her surgery the hardest experience of her entire life.
One Day at a Time star Valerie Bertinelli told her weight loss story and showed the world how proud she was of her achievements by getting into a bikini and posing on the cover of People magazine. Check out her photo here.
The taped show airs today, April 1, 2009. See the Oprah teaser video and some comments by Valerie Bertinelli below.
