'ER''s Emotional Goodbye Party

It was an emotional night on the red carpet as the current and past cast of "ER" gathered together in celebration of the show's passing -- and "The Insider" was there.

"We never really had a celebration. We had Christmas parties and season wrap parties, but there was never a sense of closure to the thing," Noah Wyle, who played Dr. John Carter for 11 seasons, said. "People left the show and I kept working. I left the show and other people came on. There was never a collective sense of 'it's done.' That's what tonight is about."

The "ER" series finale airs tonight at 9 p.m., preceded by a retrospective at 8 p.m. on NBC. A lot of former cast members, including Noah, will be back for the final episode of the hospital drama.

"What I love about the show is the show existed to promote social causes and issues of social justice and poverty. Things that are not so much a part of the dialogue on TV any more," says Laura Innes, who played Dr. Kerry Weaver for 10 seasons. "We impacted the culture in a positive way. It sounds dorky, but I love that about it."

"ER" wraps after 15 seasons, during which it won 22 Primetime Emmy Awards and holds the record as the most-nominated series in TV history.

"My heart is breaking for 'ER,'" says John Stamos, who became a series regular in the 13th season as Dr. Tony Gates. "It was a staple on television. Nothing like it will happen again."

  • I have watched every episode of ER since the first one in 1994. I have laughed, I have certainly cried, I have been on the edge of my seat. Nothing will ever fill the void left by this wonderful series. The final series couldn't have been done any better. Congratulations to all who have worked on this wonderful TV show.
