Eliot Spitzer: "There are no excuses"

New York's disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer sat down with the Today show's Matt Lauer this morning and touched on the "800-pound gorilla in the room" with understatements like "there are no excuses" and "I have a spectacular wife."

Spitzer, or "Client 9" as he's known to the feds, told Lauer his hotel trysts with Ashley Dupre were infrequent and "not long in the grand context of my life." Spitzer added, "It was an egregious violation of my behavior that I fell into for many reasons, but none of them are an excuse or justifiable."

It was the public revelation of Spitzer's propensity for prostitutes that forced him to resign from office on March 17, 2008.
