According to People magazine, the singer donated her gold and cream Jessica McClintock gown to Hearst Magazines' DonateMyDress.org. The site is a national network that connects dress drive organizations that help get special-occasion gowns to girls who cannot afford them.
As for why she chose to sell her dress, Taylor said:
"I chose to give away this prom dress because I wore it once and loved it! To keep it around, hanging there all by itself and lonely in my closet, never to be worn again seemed a little pointless. I want another girl somewhere to feel good in it and have a great prom night because of this dress."
The star's dress sold for $1,200, says People.
Starlets Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Nikki Blonsky also donated dresses to the auction run by CharityFolks.com, says the mag.
