NEW YORK (AP) — Country music singer Joe Nichols has his sights set on Broadway, perhaps as soon as early 2010.Producer Randall L. Wreghitt says the four-time Grammy nominee will star in a stage version of the hit 1992 movie "Pure Country," which featured George Strait and Lesley Ann Warren. Wreghitt says further casting for the musical is now under way, as is the process of securing the remainder of the show's financing.
The movie has been adapted for the stage by Peter Masterson and will have a score by Steve Dorff, who wrote songs for the movie, including two number-one country singles, "Heartland" and "I Cross My Heart." Both will be in the stage version.
