"Desperate Housewives" actress Nicollette Sheridan tells TV Guide Magazine that killing off her character, Edie Britt, could have "devastating ramifications" for the show.

She tells the publication of her character's relationship with the show's creator Marc Cherry, "I think whoever Edie represented in Marc’s life was somebody he didn’t like. And he had a very difficult time distinguishing between fact and fiction.”

Nicollette says, for her, "Desperate Housewives" started to change. "When the show started it was such a different beast. It was exciting and dangerous and funny and edgy and bizarre. It started feeling a little complacent, and that was very frustrating.”

Marc says the show has been having financial troubles and according to TV Guide Magazine, cutting Nicollette will save the show $100-$200,000 an episode. “There has been tremendous pressure put on me to cut costs…the network is saying to all the shows, ‘The company is really hurting financially. You must find a way to produce these shows more cheaply,'” he tells TV Guide Magazine.

He continues, “Edie already slept with most of the guys on the street and has caused about as many problems as she could. … We will find a new kind of sexiness coming through Wisteria Lane. What I won’t do is cast another fortysomething sexy blonde. … [Nicollette] performed the aging neighborhood tramp better than anyone has ever done before.”

  • i do not think they should have killed off edie...i think the show is at its best with edie...she always talks to everyone straight-forward, without having to try to make things sound nice. The one person that should have been killed off is...

  • it was a mutual decision to leave the show. Especially since they added a bunch of new characters like Dana Delany and others. She was just getting quite boring.

  • Killing Edie was the worst thing DH could have done. Why not get rid of one the boring women like Toms wife. NS is really going to be missed. She really the only believable character on the show.

  • I really liked the Edie character. She brought a lot of sass and straigh-forwardness to it. Too bad it had to be here- I always thought she didn't get enough storylines. The show hasn't been as good the past couple of seasons, tho.

  • It just seems like a big mistake. All the women are great, but she was just more fun to watch. No other "tramp" will ever equal her.

  • I too think that the writers have made a very shortsighted decision. Edia added necessary contrast (and comic relief) to the increasingly staid and settled (complacent?) stable of housewives. If anything, Edie should have been given her own spinoff....

  • they should have kept Edie & got rid of the old gal, plus those two
ugly fat little girls who brought nothing to the show but aggravation.
I think the writer is floundering.

  • The first and part of the second season were fun, edgy and suspenseful. And I didn't consider Sheridan's character a tramp...just a really fun character...she and Teri Hatcher made me laugh so many times. I've stopped watching DH because it's a bore...

  • Yeah, it's about run it's course and gotten downright silly nd unbelivable. I son't think the writher's have a grasp on "real' life on a lot of the shows these days. I love the game shows and Idol andt that's about it for me.
