Fantasia getting the reality show treatment

The Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) — Fantasia is the latest star to get her life turned into a reality show.

VH1 said Friday that its cameras will begin following the singer for a series that it hopes to premiere early next year.

Fantasia was the third-season winner of "American Idol" in 2004. The 24-year-old single mother has written an autobiography called "Life is Not a Fairy Tale" and starred in a TV movie about herself.

VH1 says the series will show how she deals with life and, as the network put it, the seismic aftershocks of fame.

Fantasia performed in the Broadway production of "The Color Purple" in 2007 and is now recording her third album.

  • I didn't like her on American Idol, I still don't like her singing and I would never watch a reality show about her. I agree with LaraLover - all she ever talked about on AI was how hard it was being a single mom. A reality show will not get people...

  • Who on Earth wants to watch a Fantasia reality show? If it is like Idol all we'll hear is how hard it is to be single mother, she'll blubber like a baby every 5 minutes, blah blah blah. BO-RING. Is the programming budget for VH1 really THAT low???
