"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" received the Outstanding Talk Show Episode award during the 20th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night. The winning episode was entitled "Ellen & Portia's Wedding Day."
GLAAD -- which recognizes media for their representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives -- gave its Outstanding Comedy Series to the hit ABC show "Desperate Housewives."
The film 'Milk,' which tells the story of American gay activist/politician Harvey Milk, took the GLAAD prize for Outstanding Film. The movie stars Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin and James Franco.
Comedienne Kathy Griffin was given the organization's Vanguard award. Additional GLAAD awards were presented in New York on March 28 and more will be presented in San Francisco on May 9.
