"She was sitting home a few weeks ago, all alone with her cat, and no one's ever heard of her, apart from six people," says Simon, "and now you've got 150 million people daily talking about her in America, and people camped outside her house. That's incredible."
Earlier this month, Boyle wowed Simon and his fellow judges overseas on "Britain's Got Talent" with her incredible singing voice -- an unexpected talent at odds with her frumpy, eccentric appearance. Her performance has clicked north of 50 million views on YouTube, and although she has yet to win the competition, Simon thinks she's a definite star in the making.
"It's one of the best pieces of TV I've ever seen in my life," he says. "And that's why I love making these shows -- something completely unexpected, something you couldn't predict. You can't plan for it. I'm thrilled to bits for her."
