Jennifer Hudson makes it a family affair during her first hometown concert since her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew were murdered in Chicago last year.

The Oscar and Grammy-winning singer appeared in concert Saturday night at the Arie Crown Theatre in Chicago's McCormick Place, just eight miles from the home where she grew up, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Hudson is currently in the middle of a concert tour with Robin Thicke.

During her performance, Hudson dedicated the song "You Pulled Me Through" to family members who were in the audience. She also welcomed four of her cousins to the stage to sing a pair of a capella spiritual songs that brought the audience to its feet, the Sun-Times said.

The bodies of Hudson's mother and brother were found Oct. 24 at their home on Chicago's South Side. The body of nephew Julian King was found days later on the city's West Side. The estranged husband of Hudson's sister, William Balfour, is charged in the murders.

  • How sad is it she still has to pander for sympathy. I guess bringing her cousins onstage to sing at least maximized the chances that someone would her something good. Probably didn't happen though. Lyn martinlutherkingslegacy.com
