EXCLUSIVE: Shanna Moakler in Gay Rights Ad With Former Miss California Contestants

Weeks after Miss California Carrie Prejean denounced gay marriage, Shanna Moakler -- the director of the Miss California USA pageant -- is appearing in a new ad supporting gay rights.

Moakler (a former Miss USA) shot a print ad Tuesday slamming Proposition 8, the initiative that bans gay marriage in California.

"I believe Prop 8 lead a campaign of confusion and never made clear what was being asked of the people," Moakler said in an exclusive statement to Usmagazine.com Tuesday. "I find most people have a problem with the word marriage. What I hope for is helping others understand 'civil union' and then one day helping people learn 'marriage' is something not God, not the state or country can solidify, but between two people who love each other."

Although Prejean has said she lost the Miss USA crown because of her anti-gay marriage answer, Moakler said it was because Prejean "wasn't able to convey compassion for ALL the people that, as MISS USA, she would be representing."

  • At least someone is standing up to Miss California.
  • I'd say at least 90% of the homosexual people are born that way. It's not their choice. If it was their choice don't you think they'd be more willing to state their sexual preference? I have several friends that are gay and it was devastating for them when they realized they were different. One had to go into counseling. God is the creator of all and it's not our place to judge those that don't fall into your category of "normal" or "go against nature". And, if you don't believe in God that's your choice - I as a Christian will not hold that against you either.

    • As I won't hold the fact that you are a christain against you. Science, darwin evolution thats fact. Religion thats made up by weak people who need something to believe in. Why did your friend need help because they knew it was wrong to be gay. hopefully one day there will be a pill for that.

  • What are you a bunch of bimbos jumping on the band wagon of a disgusting homosexual ass? This whole thing ahs gotten too much attention. Homosexuality is against nature and I feel sorry for people who can't see that. Everybody born needs a man and woman that should say it all.
