After walking onto the stage for the interview, Oprah begins by asking Kirstie how she feels. In her typical comedic style, the actress blurted out: "Fat."
Kirstie said her weight troubles began after she stopped being a spokesperson for Jenny Craig and the "pressure" to stay thin gradually evaporated. She also said she moved all her exercise equipment out of her house and turned the area into a dining room and didn't excersise or weigh herself for more than a year-and-a-half.
"I have all these people I inspired, and then I let them down," she told Oprah. "I just said, 'I'm going to cut myself some slack.' Big mistake."
On the much-publicized bikini reveal of Valerie Bertinelli after her own weight battle, Kirstie said Valerie looked "dazzling." "Her body rocked. It inspired me," said Kirstie, who revealed that she was the person responsible for getting Valerie involved with Jenny Craig.
Kirstie also said she's also inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama's body. "I'm, like, 'Look, Michelle Obama's guns. I could have those arms.'" Oprah responds with: "You've got to work for that." "I think I'm ready to work," Kirstie said.
Kirstie, who famously created a TV show called "Fat Actress" based on her own career and weight battles, told Oprah she is preparing to launch her own weight-loss program that should be ready by November. By that time, she also pledged to lose all the weight again and look "ripped." "In a way it's sort of … crazy. We're in the middle of a recession, and I decide, yes, I'm going to create my own business yeah … I'm going to lose 80 pounds yeah … I'm going to be in a bikini again."
