Simon Cowell Reacts to Death of David Cook's Brother

Simon Cowell released a statement to ET after hearing the news of "American Idol" winner David Cook's brother passing away.

"I was incredibly saddened to hear the news," Cowell said. "I met Adam Cook a few times at 'American Idol.' He was an incredible guy, and right now my thoughts are with David and his family."

David announced the sad news Sunday at the Race for Hope 5K fund-raising race in Washington D.C. He said he had lost his 37-year-old brother the previous day, but was still proud to attend the event, which is held as a way to fight brain tumors. "I lost one today," he told the crowd, "but I gained 9,000 -- and I will be here every year that they will have me."

My thoughts and prayers go out to David and his family. It was awesome that his brother was able to watch him perform and win AI before he lost his battle. I also think that it was truly awesome for David to do the walk for Brain Cancer the day...

This is so sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Cook family. David is truely an American Idol! He shows such grace and love for his family. I think the statement from Simon Cowell is awesome!!!
