Victoria Principal Responds to Alleged Gun Threat

Actress Victoria Principal is claiming she was "in fear for her life" when she pulled a gun on a woman who briefly worked as a housekeeper at her Malibu home.

According to court papers filed in L.A. County Superior Court, housekeeper Maribel Banegas accuses the former "Dallas" star of pointing a gun and threatening to kill her after Principal allegedly terminated her temporary employment for taking too long to walk the dog. Banegas' lawsuit claims the incident occurred after Principal fired her on the spot after two days of work in December 2008 and demanded that she leave, but the maid refused and asked for a final payment.

In her counter complaint, Principal acknowledges pulling a gun on Banegas, but alleges this arose out of self defense due to consistently aggressive behavior shown by the maid.

"After being notified by her employment agency that she was being terminated following two days of temporary employment as a housekeeper at Principal's Malibu residence, Banegas engaged in outrageous, threatening and violent conduct which put Principal and her full-time permanent housekeeper, Ms. Sandra Ferrior, in fear for the safety and well-being for their person and property, all in an effort to extort money from Principal," the complaint reads.

The counter complaint accuses Banegas of "repeatedly slamming the back door, physically assaulting Ferrior, taking, threatening, and ultimately injuring Principal's dog, and banging the kitchen counter." The complaint states that "out of concern for her own safety, as well as that of Ferrior and her dog, under the guise that she was going to get Banegas money, Principal went upstairs to her bedroom and retrieved a handgun, of which Principal was in legal possession."

It states further that when Banegas took a couple of steps towards Principal and Ferrior, the actress "cocked the handgun and again told Banegas to leave. After a few moments of yelling, Banegas left the residence."

Principal -- who played Pamela Barnes Ewing on the hit '70s TV series "Dallas" -- is suing Banegas for assault, trespass, civil extortion, animal cruelty, negligence.

The maid is suing Principal for assault, false imprisonment and emotional distress and seeks unspecified damages.
