Christina Aguilera to Make Big Screen Debut

Christina Aguilera is heading to the big screen!

The singer will make her film debut in Burlesque, Variety reports. The movie, a contemporary musical, stars Aguilera as an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds success at an L.A. neo-burlesque club.

Aguilera has won four Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy and has sold more than 25 million albums. Although she has never starred in a film, she lent her voice to the 2004 animated flick, Shark Tale and performed the title song in 2001's Moulin Rouge with Pink, Lil' Kim and Maya.

The film, which has many links to Bob Fosse's Cabaret, will begin filming late this year.

Burlesque will be produced by Sony Picture's Screen Gems, which recently put another songstress in the acting spotlight with Beyonce Knowles' Obsessed.

"I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind," Screen Gems' Clint Culpepper told Variety.
