A 'CSI:NY' Greek Mystery by Melina Kanakaredes!

"CSI:NY" star Melina Kanakaredes draws on her Greek heritage for tonight's all-new episode on CBS -- which she wrote! Our own Lara Spencer picked up Melina at the nearby "CSI:NY" set -- just a hop, skip and a jump from the "Insider" soundstage -- for a fun interview.

"I've been a big Greek history buff for years," says Melina. "The first 'CSI' had gone to England and 'CSI: Miami' went somewhere else, so I thought we could start out season five in Greece. How cool would this be, because my character is half Greek on the show."

In the episode entitled "Grounds for Deception," Melina's character Stella discovers that New Yorkers are being murdered over ancient Greek artifacts. Determined to follow the clues that lead to Greece, she hands over her badge and, together with Mac (Gary Sinise), she uncovers one of the greatest mysteries in history!

Between the show and writing an episode, Melina is also starring in a new film with Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson and Catherine Keener -- as the goddess Athena!

"As a Greek kid growing up, my family is so beyond excited," says Melina of 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,' based on the series of books and scheduled to hit theaters next year. "It's a movie that my kids will someday [be able to] watch."

Catch "CSI:NY" tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS for the episode written by Melina!
