Author Helen Fielding has turned her book Bridget Jones’ Diary into a musical for London’s West End

The show will open in London in 2011 following the success of the two film adaptations of the book starring Renee Zellweger, pictured, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.

It is claimed the actors will not reprise their roles in the stage version of the tale.

The story of Bridget Jones was based on Fielding’s newspaper columns about 32-year-old Bridget, who had nightmares about remaining single for the rest of her life. She kept a diary documenting her attempts to sort her life out and find a man.

Fielding has reportedly been working on the musical for several months, and the show is yet to find a director but a reading of the work in London attracted director Stephen Daldry and Peter Darling.

London-based company Working Title, who were behind the Bridget Jones films, are said to be involved in the project.

Actors rumoured to have links with the project include Pirates of the Caribbean star Jack Davenport, and Victoria Wood and Harry Enfield.
