In the opening sketch last night, Ferrell played one of his most famous characters, George W. Bush, and reunited with Darrell Hammond, who played Dick Cheney. In the bit, Bush tells Cheney he's concerned with how often the former VP is appearing on TV since leaving office. "You're on TV more than that Sham Wow guy," Ferrell says.
Ferrell then asks Hammond where Cheney was when he really needed him in office. "I spent eight years with my face out there, saying things I barely understood. While you were nowhere to be found." Hammond responds that he was "busy," but had no regrets.
Ferrell responds: "Well here's my regret. That I didn't have me a vice president like Joe Biden. I mean look at those two, goin' out for burgers -- laughing it up. I needed that kind of VP. The kind that did dumb stuff to make me look smarter."
In his monologue, Ferrell sarcastically told the audience that his career included a lot of serious dramatic work and he wanted to demonstrate onstage. He then proceeded to give a faux dramatic performance that drew huge laughs, even pausing a couple of times to tell the audience: "please, no laughter."
The funnyman also revived his Alex Trebek impression during a parody sketch of "Jeopardy," with the help of Norm Macdonald playing Burt Reynolds, Hammond portraying Sean Connery and Tom Hanks appearing as a dumb version of himself.
