Will Adam Lambert Join Queen?

For the "American Idol" season eight finale, Adam Lambert had the opportunity to perform "We Are the Champions" with Queen.

He told ET, "I was so honored to be onstage with Brian May. Queen is one of my all-time favorite bands. I would love to work with him."

Now Brian is returning the compliment. He tells Rolling Stone, "[drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."

Queen, whose lead singer was Freddie Mercury until his death, had been performing until recently with singer Paul Rodgers. That relationship has run its course, so the band now has an opening.

But how do they feel about "American Idol" as a launching pad for a serious music career?

"Both those boys are well worthy of big success," May tells the music magazine, in regard to Lambert and "Idol" winner Kris Allen. "So it's pointless for someone like me to stand on the sidelines jeering. I'm confident Adam will make great use of this wonderful opportunity. I hope I’m there to see it."

Fans of "American Idol" will recall that Fuel reportedly made an offer to Chris Daughtry to join forces with them, following his expulsion from the search for the next singing sensation. Daughtry, of course, decided to do his own thing.
