The Obamas' Date Night in the Big Apple

President Barack Obama fulfills an important campaign promise -- not to the public -- but to his wife, Michelle.

The first couple departed Washington D.C. on Saturday for Manhattan, where they enjoyed a romantic dinner at a Greenwich Village restaurant before taking in a Broadway show.

"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished," the president said in a statement to the Associated Press. The First Lady was dressed in an elegant black sleeveless dress, while the president opted for a dark suit and white shirt.

The two headed to New York's Belasco Theatre on West 44th Street, where they attended the Tony-nominated Joe Turner's Come and Gone, a play about black America in the early 1900s. Right after the show, the first couple returned home to Washington.

  • Good for them! They deserve a date night like any other married couple! How many other former presidents took their wives out for the night and no one ever questioned that!!! Hope they had a great night..
