Angelina Jolie Calls Attention to Darfur Conflict

Actress and activist Angelina Jolie has penned a new article for Time magazine, calling for action to end the conflict in Darfur, saying "the intensity of the crisis has not lessened for those who are struggling to survive."

The actress, who turned 34 yesterday, published the article on the same day the United Nations Security Council will receive the results of the International Criminal Court's Darfur investigation.

"The evidence the prosecutor has presented is clear and compelling," she writes, adding that "millions of people have been displaced" and "hundreds of thousands have been killed."

The actress also writes about her first time visiting refugees from Darfur in Chad in 2004, mentioning that since then, "nothing changed."

"Darfur has almost disappeared from the news, and experts now call it a 'low intensity' conflict," she writes. "But the intensity of the crisis has not lessened for those who are struggling to survive."

Angelina goes on to describe the living conditions of people living in refugee camps, saying, "Girls leaving the camps are raped; boys leaving the camps are killed. They want an education; they want to go back to their villages, to their land; they want peace. But they also want justice."

  • Angelina never stop helping the less fortunate. Refugees need so much help, thanks to her for doing what she can, by bringing attention to thier need for protection.

Doing good in this world will not stop other from saying bad things about you,...

  • She is just so caring towards others, when you look at people that suffer in the world you can count on Angie to be there to support in any way she can. LOVE HER.
  • It's awe inspiring to have someone so committed to being something other than "just and actress" she should be an example for all the privileged Hollywood people.
  • More PR, her movie will be out soon.

  • Why doesn't she call more attention to raising her own kids rather than her nannies. She is such a hyprocrite.

    • Y don't you keep you comments to yourself.. She is no different to any other mother that works and has children. Just because your ass is just planted on a seat insulting others. There is nothing wrong with working and having nannies take care of...

  • It is good to see such celebrities getting involved in noble causes. An article from a famous person (even more so if he or she is from hollywood) seems to bear more weight than the normal man's voice.
