After he and his metal band Poison took the Tony Awards stage to perform in the show's opening number, musician and reality TV star Bret Michaels ran into a set piece on the stage, causing him to fall backwards. Read on for details …

At the end of the band's performance of "Nothin' But a Good Time" alongside the cast of "Rock of Ages," Michaels was hit in the head by a descending piece from the show's set, causing him to fall.

Tonys spokesperson Christina Stejskal told the Associated Press that Michaels "missed his mark," but did not elaborate on whether he was injured or not.

Host Neil Patrick Harris joked about the accident immediately following the opening number.

  • Whats interesting is that the 'set' piece didn't stop at all . Was anyone on the 'fly' team or stage crew watching for safety ?

  • Bret had to stay on stage longer than anyone (of course). He really got a good whack. I wonder if he had any sense knocked into him.
