Queen Latifah Speaks Out Against Sexual Abuse

Queen Latifah -- who recently revealed that she was abused as a child -- tells "The Insider" that she is sharing her own experience with the public because the problem is so prevalent among children.

The Academy Award-nominated singer/actress says the "terrible" statistics are that about 25 percent of girls are touched inappropriately and it is important to address this problem when kids are still young. "We really have to try to do a better job of educating and protecting our kids -- being aware of how this all works -- and really helping them to move past it."

She also says she came forward with her own story to let young people know that sexual abuse is not their fault and to give them hope for healing.

Queen Latifah was attending a show of high school students getting their own Broadway debut by performing plays written by the students and performed by their classmates. The Fidelity FutureStage program, now in its third year, is designed to give more than 600 students at New York inner-city schools the chance to experience Broadway.
