I never felt bad about it either until my sophomore year in college, two abortions and four STD’s later. It’s hard to embrace your inner harlot while carrying a stranger’s child and rubbing cream on your weeping genitals sores. I’m not saying it can’t be done; it just takes a little more effort. But herpes isn’t nearly as happy as those stupid Valtrex commercials make it look. Nobody gave me my days back. I didn’t spend any time prancing down a beach with my concerned lover cradling my shoulders. I spent more time crying in my dorm room because Gold Bond medicated lotion just made the sores burn worse and being pregnant made me look fat.
