"The Insider" has learned that actor and humanitarian Matt Damon has co-founded a new non-profit organization.

Damon, co-founder of H2O Africa, announced Tuesday that he has co-created Water.org -- a non-profit organization that aims to help bring access to safe water to nearly 890 million people and help more than 2.5 billion people without safe sanitation.

The actor had this to say about his new endeavor:

"Every 15 seconds, a child in the developing world dies from water-related disease. After visiting project sites in Africa and Asia with Gary, I’ve seen the problem and the impact of safe water.”

Water.org was created as Damon's H20 Africa and Gary White's WaterPartners organizations merged.
