President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama celebrated country music, and welcomed some special guests to the White House on Tuesday night.

Alison Krauss, Union Station, Brad Paisley, and Charley Pride entertained the Obamas, lawmakers, and cabinet secretaries in the East Room of the White House on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

"Now, I know folks think I'm a city boy, but I do appreciate listening to country music," Obama said. "It's captured our restlessness and resilience, and told so much of our story in the process."

Prior to their performance Paisley, Krauss and Union Station taught middle and high school music students about music and songwriting, the AP says.

The performance and workshop are a part of a music series that the first lady started last month to promote music and arts education.
