Lawyers sum up at Amy Winehouse assault trial

The Associated Press
LONDON (AP) — A lawyer for Amy Winehouse says a woman who claims she was assaulted by the singer suffered nothing but injured pride.

The 25-year-old singer is on trial accused of hitting dancer Sherene Flash in the eye after the fan asked to take her picture following a charity ball in September.

Prosecutors say it was a deliberate assault.

But Winehouse's lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, told City of Westminster Magistrates' Court that no punch had been thrown. He said "the main injury here was probably to Miss Flash's pride."

Winehouse shot to stardom with the Grammy-winning album "Back to Black" in 2006, but her music has been overshadowed by reports of drug use, run-ins with the law and a tempestuous marriage.

A verdict is expected later Friday.

  • Amy looks so healthy in this picture...she seems to have gained some weight and appears to be sober. I only hope she could keep up the good work! I'd love her to make that 3rd album.
