Songwriters Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer alleged that Lavigne and her co-writers have lifted their 1979 song ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’.
In fact I did listen to both songs on my jukebox and found an uncanny similarity between the two. The only difference that instead of the word ‘boyfriend’ Avril has used the term girlfriend. Barring this there appear to be no difference.
Displaying his anger Dunbar said:
We are not so naive as to chalk it up to some sort of cosmic coincidence. The lyric, the meter, the rhythm — they’re identical.
The first hearing of the lawsuit is schedule for Aug. 28 in Oakland.
Already Avril doesn’t have a great fan following and with acts like this she would further slack her popularity chart.
