Hilary looks totally Femme Fatal for the ad campaign wearing an all black outfit and killer heels. Actually the pic is pretty cool, very edgy, just like Hilary wanted.
The first reports of the collaboration surfaced in late January 2009. Duff has always said she’s a “huge fan” of Donna Karan so the choice of collaboration partner was pretty clear.
I have always adored and worn DKNY Jeans, so it made perfect sense to reach out to them. We hit it off immediately, sharing a design vision offering something special for young women like me,” Duff said in spring 2009.
Kevin Monogue, President of DKNY Jeans, noted Hilary’s influence over the target demographic and how their design sensibilities have been perfectly aligned:
She’s edgy and still feminine, embraces individuality, and offers a bold, experimental way of interpreting trends. We are so excited about what is being developed for Femme. It has been, and continues to be, a dream collaboration.”
The Fall 2009 line is described as “feminine but tough all at the same time,” “aggressive, but in a good way,” “stylish,” “hard and soft, provocative and powerful.”
The line is pretty much what Hilary likes to wear herself. Hilary’s love of poppies, sequins, and shine mixed with edgier things like vinyl, menswear fabrics and motorcycle details - that’s what Femme for DKNY Jeans is about.
The line that’s set to hit stores some time soon includes sweater tunics with removable cowl scarves, tees with detachable and printed necklaces, charmeuse cozies that layer like scarves, skinny jeans with adjustable belt loops for thin or wide belts. Prices range from $39 for a tshirt to $129 for outerwear.
It’s not only jeans,” the 21 yo singer/actress/designer said. “We did little jackets and tops and a few dresses and big cowl neck scarves, which is really fun.
I wanted to do a really smart line, like jeans that have lots of multiple sizes of belt loops so you can wear any kind of belt with it and it still kind of looks cool, or jeans that have a spot for suspenders to hook on if you want to let them hang down. Or burn-out T-shirts with fringe on them and little, like, shrunken leather jackets and vests.
And I wanted to do, like, necklaces attached to shirts but that girls can take off and wear in a different way, and the same with scarves.”
Paying special attention to details and mix-and-match, Hilary said her goal was to create a “sophisticated upstairs” collection that would be “very accessible, very affordable, and really stylish.”
Sounds promising, we’ll see if the designs are really worth your time and money in a couple of months.
