Quote: ‘Going Green is Like Smoking Marijuana’

Owen recently purchased a Toyota Prius hybrid car to help reduce his carbon footprint. He also stated that he’s now become addicted to going ‘green’ and determined to save the planet! Way to go Owen! I’m feeling better already.

Owen stated:

“You know how people say marijuana is a gateway drug? That’s sort of what buying a Prius was for me”

As part of his new ‘addiction’ he provided content to a new book called The Green Book - The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time. Along with Owen we have Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Redford, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Aniston, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Martha Stewart, Tyra Banks, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Tiki Barber, and Justin Timberlake all telling us how they make a difference to the environment.

Some of the items you may find in the book include:

Don’t ask for ATM receipts. If everyone in the United States refused their receipts, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the equator fifteen times!

Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth. You’ll conserve up to five gallons of water per day. Throughout the entire United States, the daily savings could add up to more water than is consumed every day in all of New York City.

… and …

Get a voice-mail service for your home phone. If all answering machines in U.S. homes were replaced by voice-mail services, the annual energy savings would total nearly two billion kilowatt hours. The resulting reduction in air pollution would be equivalent to removing 250,000 cars from the road for a year!

I wonder how Owen feels about Cameron Diaz - she definitely doesn’t agree with his views. She loves her carbon footprint:

“I don’t want to be running around barefoot, pushing my car like Barney Rubble. I don’t want to go back to the Stone Age. I just want to maintain what we have for a long period of time…forever. How nice would that be? I’m very selfish.”
