Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and formerly imprisoned journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling have left North Korea and are bound for Los Angeles.

A representative for Clinton released the following statement to "The Insider": "President Clinton has safely left North Korea with Laura Ling and Euna Lee. They are en route to Los Angeles where Laura and Euna will be reunited with their families."

Ling and Lee were pardoned and released earlier today, after Clinton negotiated for their release.

Laura Ling is the sister of Lisa Ling, a fellow journalist who reports for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and previously co-hosted "The View."

Ling and Lee were on a news assignment for former Vice President Al Gore's media company Current TV when they were arrested. The journalists were reporting on women and children refugees within North Korea.

  • I applaud Bill Clinton for his courage to negotiate their release. As a former President, Bill Clinton carries some clout. To think the USA traded anything for these journalists is absurd. It was a humanitarian effort that was successful. Great job...

  • What did the United States give to North Korea in return for the journalists release? My youngest son is serving in the US Army over in South Korea and I surely don't want to hear that any of our troops are in danger.
