Lopez special looks to parenting, Obama for laughs

LOS ANGELES (AP) — George Lopez says he's fit and ready to riff on modern parenting, President Obama and more in his live HBO comedy special Saturday night.

Lopez says he's worked hard to prepare for "George Lopez: Tall, Dark & Chicano," even dropping 12 pounds so he looks his best.

This is his second standup special for HBO, and Lopez says the stakes are higher: He has the chance to reach viewers who have become familiar with him through syndicated reruns of his sitcom.

But the comedian says "Tall, Dark & Chicano" will lean toward adult humor, in the vein of TV specials with Richard Pryor, George Carlin and others.

The show airs 10 p.m. EDT Saturday on HBO and repeats throughout the month.
